We had to change TV Shows.....

Yard Crashers will have to happen some other time.  Army Son's GF's parents came in to see them, so we all went to lunch.  We had never met, so it was about time!  I think they have been together for 6 or 7 years!  After a late lunch, we were going to go bowling.  The lanes by our house had Women's Tournaments, so we decided we would do the evening bowling at another alley in town.  (Mistake #1--always go with the familiar....)

We cruise over to the 'other' lane with the kids for some fun family time.  We walk inside, and it is a pretty big place.  $10 per person (and that includes your shoes) for three hours.  We are thinking SCORE!  In the middle of the alleys (there are about 36) four of them have been shut down and there is a DJ there, complete with flashy lights, etc.  He's playing tolerable music, so it's all good.  Then "IT" happened.  It would seem our DJ for the night thought he was a one man band.  This is the part where I allow you to start snickering....  The first song he sang was OK...not bad....then.....he and his magical guitar-looking keyboard announced that they were going to woo us.  What he didn't announce was that he was going to do it in pitches that made the microphone crack and at volumes that made my eardrums throb and bleed.  The more Management told him to turn it down....the more he turned it up!  He had one of those karaoke boxes that show him the words, and evidently he didn't know how to read.  Boys and girls---this was so bad people were holding their ears!  I LOVE music!  I LOVE all genres.  I'm even known to turn it up a little loud and sing along when I am longarming, in the car, etc.  Only the FIRST song was good.  After that....it was pretty much downhill.  No, I'm no Simon from American Idol, but after an hour I was ready to vote him off the show....say things to him to make him curl into the fetal position and cry....and generally ruin his self esteem.  But, I didn't.  We just packed up and went home.  The four of us had incredible headaches, earaches and upset stomachs.  I'm pretty sure we will all have migraines this morning...kids, it was B A D ! ! ! !

Note to self-->stay with the familiar.  Sure, the other bowling alley has the laser light show while you are bowling, but at least they don't sound like a wild animal being rolled over by a steam engine!

Yard Crashers

Yesterday morning changed EVERYTHING!  Remember I told you about Army Son and GF getting their first house?  Well, there isn't a spot in their landscaping that they like.  We decided that this coming Saturday, we would do their Yard Crashers.  Hubs and I will load up the rototiller and various gardening tools....making the trip in to see them.  We are going to pull out all of their bushes and completely re-do their landscaping--just like the TV show, "Yard Crashers".

Rather than looking for myself something yesterday, I went looking for something for them...a little surprise if you will.  Well.....I found it....not exactly.  I text his GF, "J".

Me:  So what do you think of a Tiki theme for the back deck?

J:  What??  What do you mean?

Me:  You know--like a Hawaiian island....wait, let me take pics and send them to you....

Don't you just love their grass skirts???

These guys were like four feet tall!

Can't you just picture it all?  There were signs....there were even smaller tiki guys that were solar-powered outdoor lights!  If you look real close, you can see they even had palm trees!  We could have soooo kept on theme and made a very unusual back deck.

But.....the world doesn't see things like I do.......

Well, THAT was a mistake.....

What "feeds" YOUR soul?  Mine is fed with creativity.  It seems that when I am creating something, it puts a little bounce in my step.  Nothing kills the stress of the day like feeding your soul.  That being said, my job is very stressful, but rewarding.  My creativity is unleashed when I quilt, garden or cook.  Given the opportunity to do any of the three--and you can definitely feel my mood completely flip-flop.

Over the weekend, I was longarming and Hubs brought me some lunch.  I flipped on the TV while I was eating and saw a gardening show that was coming on, so I recorded it.  Well, THAT was my big mistake!  I watched it Sunday night.  My hands ache to play in the dirt.  My mind has thought about nothing since.  I had to FORCE myself to drive straight home last night and not go to that mega gardening center I told you about last year...

So, today before I head off to the big city and deal with the stress of it all, I will sneak my camera into the car.  I am going to reward myself with a little trip....I may even go to one of the centers in the big city rather than waiting until I get home.  I have all of these ideas racing through my head, keeping me up at night, of what I want to do out there in the garden.  No veggie plants this year...but for sure next year.

It is supposed to be warm this afternoon, so I will re-enter the house this evening with dirt under my nails, stains on my knees and that feeling of renewal that pulling weeds and digging in the dirt affords me.

Wanna join me???

The one that got away...

I meant to post this on Monday, but life got away from me.  Remember, I told you that my customer had done an absolutely stunning quilt?  Well, I finished it up on Sunday.  I am so in love with it.  It would have been happy living with me, but she had to be stingy and keep it for herself!  LOL

Sorry about the lighting, but we were hurrying to get the pic while she was here.

This is the back.  She had brought me the pic from the magazine, and they had feathered it to death, so that's what I did!

This one is a close up of the back.  She did such an incredible job on this one.  It is a true keeper!

I got so much done last weekend, I don't even know where to start!  There was the longarming....and I had a couple of my little wallhangings that I threw on just to "finish" them off.  One needed a little basket in the alternate blocks....we had taken it off the longarm to have it for our JLWC, and it had never made it back on.  I longarmed another of our square table toppers from a shop hop...pics to follow once I get it bound.  It was kind of just a "honey do" day for me--catching up on little things that needed done.  I even re-potted a couple of plants!

I've got a few ladies dropping off and picking up quilts today, then it's back to the longarms.  Want to get a lot accomplished today.  Afterall, I have to get going on my UFO challenge for this year!  It is almost May, and all I have done is longarm TWO quilts!  They both need bound, so they don't count as finished!  Well, I'm off to the races....have a blessed day!

The tax man cometh....

So, it is "Tax Day" here in the US.  Here are a few things that come to mind....

I don't know if it is just beat into us when we are younger, or if it is something that just 'happens'.  All I know is when I get that envelope in the mail from the accountant, I want to hyperventilate!

Here's hoping you get lots of money back.....and the day isn't too stressful for you!  Happy Tax Day!

Friday the 13th....

Today has definitely been a Friday the 13th for me!  Everything that could possibly go wrong--HAS!  I shipped (accidentally) 200 cases of product to a customer who isn't there due to Spring Break.  So....some poor driver has been thinking about me all day while he works around it to deliver the rest of our customers!

A carload of kids tried to run me off the freeway today...I don't just mean they were messing with me...I mean they ran me into the berm almost into the fence while I slammed on my brakes and prayed the blue BMW behind me didn't jump into my trunk!

I got a notice from the IRS that the Accountant didn't file our Corporate taxes on time, so they would like a $390 penalty.....

AND I am now home!  I am putting on sweats--making tea--and going to the sewing studio....where I intend to lock the door after hanging my "The Witch is In" wallhanging on it.

And to think I am NOT superstitious!  (Well, until today.....)

Positively Princess....

It occurred to me that I never did upload the pics of the embroidered blocks for the granddaughter quilt.  With the best intentions in the world, I went into the sewing studio last night....thinking I would jump in and tidy up a bit.  Well, once I started the embroidery machine, I was mesmorized and I think I may have cleaned for all of five minutes!

So.....the Princess Quilt.....

I know--what Princess has GREEN hair????  Honest to Pete, that's what the embroidery design called for!  After I get all of the complement blocks done, we will see how she looks.  She may be a do-over!

There are these blocks for every Princess block.  Obviously, this one is for Alice in Wonderland.  There are also little designs that are just the mirror (sleeping Beauty), the key, etc.  I don't know if I will use those.  I'm still working on the layout, but it won't be just squares.  I kinda have in my mind what I want to do.....

I will still finish the boy quilt.  If the doctors were wrong, or he was hiding, I still want to have a quilt!  Otherwise, it can just be a sample.....one of them will be!

Well, I'm off to work!

As Promised....

Ta Da!  I am almost halfway on this longarm quilt.  This is the one I told you about.  I think when it is done, I will have to break my self-imposed rule about posting what I am working on vs. posting customer quilts I have done.  It's just too pretty not to share!

I tried to take the pics at an angle, so you could see the quilting.  Terry twists, feathers, ooh la la!  The top is so fun and beautiful, I can't get enough of working on it!  It just sings to me.  Hopefully, she will like the quilting....she did such a beautiful job on it....can you tell I just love love love it!!!!!

Well, I'm headed back down to the longarms.  I have a pumpkin table topper getting an allover and this baby needs some more lovin!

The tractors are coming.....the tractors are coming.....

A Beautiful Surprise....

I didn't plan on an Easter Dinner this year.  I figured it would just be the Hubs and I.  Frankly, I was too tired for the battle that includes trying to work around six schedules.  Hubs was just going to work on some of the "Honey Do" projects to get the house ready to list, and I was going to longarm.  I have some customers picking up and dropping off this evening, so it was "The Plan".  Good thing I got up and got cracking early....Reptile Son called.  He and the Reptile Daughter-In-Law-to-be wanted to come out.  We had bought a small ham for the two of us.....so I dove into the kitchen and whipped up a quick Easter dinner.  (Sometimes it is good that they live over an hour away....)  Made the ham, whipped up a pineapple upside down cake, etc. and then jumped in the shower.  Yup...I hadn't had a shower yet...just threw on ratty clothes and ran down to the longarms.....  The kids arrived and we had a wonderful dinner and wonderful visit.  Those are the BEST kinds of surprises!!!

I'll post some pics of the quilt I am custom quilting this evening.  I'll also get those embroidery pics posted.  Just wanted to let you know that I didn't forget you.....I just had something better to do!  LOL

I hope your day was as pleasant as mine....

The tractors are coming.....the tractors are coming.....

(P.S.  Had a talk about the Tractors are coming with the kids....and they were excited!)

Do you remember....

the country music group called "The Tractors"?  For a year before they released their first CD, they mailed little toy tractors to all of the radio stations, music magazines and anyone else they could think of in the industry as a little "teaser".  It was great marketing, for sure.  Interviews with many of the execs in the music industry elaborated on the fact that as soon as the CD came, they couldn't just set it aside.  They had to listen to it because of all of the "teasing" before the release!  It was a great marketing ploy for sure!  I feel like I need to be mailing fat quarters.....

I'm looking forward to this weekend.  Hubs and I have closed up the work laptops and won't re-open them until Sunday night.  These jobs (remember, we are doing the same thing at the same company) are all-consuming.  He has some 'honey-do' jobs he wants to work on today, and I am longarming.  =)  Instead of Calgon take me away, it is longarming take me away for me!  I'm working on an absolutely stunning custom quilt....I am just going to HAVE to show you some progress pics in the morning.  I've still been doing a lot of longarming in the evenings.  Didn't get any done last weekend because of the work function.

The baby quilt has morphed into something completely different, now that we know the grandbaby is going to be a girl.  I'll have to upload some pics of that as well.  I had lost my camera a few weeks ago, after the home show, but you will be happy to hear I found it in the bag of goodies we brought home from the show....so, all is well and I can finally start uploading pics again.

Well, I need to get at it.  Lots to do this weekend....may even need to get in that sewing room and work on UFOs.....samples?

The Tractors are coming.....the tractors are coming.....
